Courses for the sports and youth association movement
Æskulýðsvettvangurinn has developed tools that sports and youth organisations and others who work with children and young people are encouraged to use to promote inclusive clubs and activities. Æskulýðsvettvangurinn is a cooperation platform of UMFÍ, the Icelandic Scout Association, YMCA and YWCA in Iceland and ICE-SAR (Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg). Many courses are offered by Æskulýðsvettvangurinn.
Information about individual courses
Communication and code of conduct
This course covers Æskulýðsvettvangurinn’s code of conduct on communication, with a focus on communication between those in charge and participants in sports and youth work. The organisations that together make up Æskulýðsvettvangurinn are committed to promoting positive communication, where each person is responsible for their words and actions.
Verndum þau (Protect them)
Since 2010, Æskulýðsvettvangurinn has run the course Verndum þau. The course is based on the book of the same name and covers how to respond to suspected violence and neglect of children and young people. The course is intended for everyone who works with children and young people and anyone else interested.
Bullying in sport
To prevent bullying and other unwanted behaviour in sports and youth work, and to ensure that cases of communication problems or bullying are resolved successfully, it is important that those who work with children and young people can recognise signs of communication problems and bullying, know its different forms and know how to respond when it occurs.
Hate speech
Hate speech is a growing problem in Icelandic society, and online hate speech is one of the major dangers facing children and young people today. Among other things, the course covers ways to prevent children and young people from adopting such behaviour.
LGBTQ+ education
The course covers all the main concepts under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, what they mean and what we can do to support LGBTQ+ people and sports clubs.
Screen use
This course covers different aspects of children’s and young people’s screen use, the difference between schools with and without phones, and how you can strengthen yourself as a leader in your work. There is time for discussion and questions.
